Oakwood Showcase
Oakwood live at the Quays Theatre, The Lowry – April 26th 2012
Oakwood and friends are collaborating in producing a performance and exhibition stimulated by the relationship between the artists’ Vincent Van Gough and Paul Gauguin. The pupils and artists will explore issues raised by the artists’ lives around: myth, marginalisation, identity and conflict.
Artists Susannah Thornton (Washington DC), Malin Stahl (Stockholm) and Elmar Hermann (Dusseldorf) will use technology to deliver interactive workshops to our pupils. Bernard Sumner (New Order) and Louise Lawler (New York) have contributed pieces of work for the pupils to study and manipulate. Sculptor Alistair Neville will be designing and making Gauguins wooden Polynesian masks over a five day residency in January.
For the performance international dance company ‘CanDoCo’ will work with pupils in choreographing a piece of music devised by musician Ben Dixon and pupils. The Manchester Camerata is now busy composing music and Manchester Poet Mike Garry will be exploring pupils’ personal journeys. ‘So Many Words’ Theatre Company has already begun rehearsing their piece, by taking a group of pupils on a five day drama camp in the Dordogne looking at identity.
Pupils from our partner schools’: Springwood Primary School, The Friars, Oasis Academy, Salford College and Jacqueline Soulange and Beynat High Schools’ (Dordogne) will be involved in the performance and exhibition activities.
Tickets for the performance can be purchased from School by contacting Ms Deadman on 0161 921 2880 or emailing enquiries@oakwoodhighschool.co.uk.
