About Us

The mission statement of the school is Promoting Learning Excellence - Inclusion Beyond the Barriers. This is an outstanding specialist school. Through the community partnerships and the harnessing of the very latest technologies, the advocation of combined creative aspirations, future social and vocational changes; we will prepare young people for the challenges of the 21st Century. Our spirit of innovation and personalised learning has continued to contribute to the raised expectations and achievements of all young people. There is a core belief that every pupil can achieve high standards. The school has earned itself a distinguished reputation as an institution, which delivers a first class service for its pupils, parents and the community. The education offered at this school aims to be exciting, stimulating and challenging.

The school has combined Specialist Arts, Technology and Sports status. We continue to advocate an educational culture, which is creative, technological, scientific and vocational. The impact of our specialisms will continue to promote a climate of achievement in both academic and personal accomplishments, whilst providing all young people with the skills and qualifications needed to progress into employment, training or higher education.

The school is a National Leader of Education and National Support School and will become an accredited Teaching School from May 2010. This programme includes the Improving Teacher Programme, Outstanding Teacher Programme and Immersion Teacher Programme. In addition to this we are a training hub school for Teaching Assistants.

The school is in the top 10 performing special schools’ list – January 2010 and has extensive international links with New York, Malaysia and China.

Currently, the school is seeking Trust status in partnership with the Co-operative College and hopes to acquire Trust status from June 1st 2010.
