Oakwood High School was awarded specialist college status in the combined curriculum areas of Art and Technology. On the 14th May 2008 the school was notified by the DCSF that we had met the criteria for becoming a High performing Specialist School and earlier this year the school was awarded the additional curriculum area of Sport.

The college programme has five partner schools: Springwood Primary Special School, Monton Green Primary School, The Friars Primary School and The Oasis Academy and Salford Academy as its high school partners.

The college community programme has developed strong links with Eccles PCT, Salford Adult learning Disability Service, Sure Start Salford, The Lowry Theatre, Eccles College and Trident Lighting.

In developing its approach to creative enterprise, the college has worked collaboratively with New order (in particular lead singer Bernard Sumner), Damien Hirst, Manchester poet Mike Garry, Ben Dixon, inclusive dance company CanDoCo,  illustrator Paul Pickford, applied dramatist Julian Boal.

The college has been an active participant of the ‘Creative Partnership’ programme for three years working closely with creative agent Judy Bird.

The programme emphasizes the development of successful collaborations and the support of whole school improvement.
