SPORTS STATUS

Oakwood High School has recently been awarded Specialist Sports College status. This curriculum area allows the spirit of innovation, creativity and personalised learning to be channelled throughout activities that promote a lifelong learning and enjoyment of physical activity and sport. It is through these experiences that pupils social, emotional and physical well-being flourish. Pupils learn to acquire and develop new skills and apply them into many practical contexts, whilst also being encouraged to evaluate and improve their own and others performances.

The PE curriculum creates opportunities that not only raise attainment and achievement, but also allow opportunities for pupils to work independently and as a team whilst also offering activities that allow pupils to work creatively and reflectively. KS4 pupils are also offered opportunities to be involved in accredited leadership courses and the Edexcel Level 2 BTEC first in Sport which extends the opportunities this subject can offer post 16.

Pupils have the opportunity to take part in competition at various levels and benefit from these experiences at high profile venues. Pupils take part in competition at different levels with many confident and able enough to compete alongside their mainstream peers.

The nature of physical education allows collaborative learning to take place within and across the year groups, with the subject specialism allowing the further development of projects that allow collaborative and exciting opportunities to work with partner schools and colleges.
