Design and Technology offers a unique opportunity
in the curriculum for pupils to identify and solve real problems
by designing and making products. Design and Technology develops
pupils Key Skills and their imaginative, innovative thinking
and creativity.
As a Technology college we are committed to raising standards
of achievement and we are continually striving for improvement.
The layout of the department permits study in, textiles, food,
resistant materials and CAD /CAM across all the focus areas.
High standards are expected from the pupils and all achievements
are recognised in a positive way.
The D&T staff have developed a style of learning that embraces
the imaginative use of technology coupled with proven traditional
methods. We design activities to enrich pupils’ technological
learning experience within and beyond the timetable.
The KS3 curriculum is made up of units of work designed for
a term or less. The activities within a unit range from looking
at existing products, materials and components, designing and
making products, new technologies including computer-aided
design and manufacture (CAD/CAM) and evaluating work produced.
The emphasis of each unit ensures progression in important
knowledge, skills and understanding.
At KS4 the department has a successful record over several
years of year 11 pupils gaining Entry Level and GCSE Certificates
in Design and Technology. Pupils produce a variety of individual
personalised products over the two years.
